Hot FM

A bit of a mystery sticker here from Germany's Hot FM.  A Google search for "Mein Radio lebt!" brought up the website address www.hot-fm.de which now redirects to "Radio Galaxy".  The three letter abbreviations seem to match some cities in Bavaria's Upper Franconia region.

WWDC

Washington, DC's WWDC call letters existed on 1260 AM from 1950 until 1999.  For many of those years they carried a full-service MOR format and were known as being the first American radio station to play a Beatles song--"I Want to Hold Your Hand" in December, 1963.  A flip to Top-40 occurred in 1977 and Adult Contemporary took over in 1980.  Soon after they started simulcasting Howard Stern's WWDC-FM morning show with separate programming in other dayparts.  AM 1260 is currently News/Talk WWRC "The Answer".

"Now 92.1" WNUZ is a CHR station licensed to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.

WSKZ

"KZ106" WSKZ is a 100,000-watt Classic Rock station in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  They went on the air in 1978 after flipping from Easy Listening WYNQ which was owned by Ted Turner.

WKTG

"Power Rock 93.9" WKTG is licensed to Madisonville, Kentucky.

WGFR

"92.7 The Revolution" WGFR (W Glens Falls Radio) is a student-run station from SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury, New York.  Radio on campus began in 1974 with WACC (W Adirondack Community College), a carrier current station heard only on campus.  FM broadcasting began in 1977 at 91.9 FM and later moved to 92.1 in the early 1980s.  Adult Album Alternative music is now heard at their current home of 92.7 FM.

WBTZ

"99.9 The Buzz" WBTZ is a Modern Rock station licensed to Plattsburgh, New York with studios in Burlington, Vermont.  The 100,000-watt signal is heard as far north as Montreal, Quebec.  They've carried an Alternative Rock format since switching from Adult Contemporary in 1996.

KUOW

94.9 KUOW (K University Of Washington--the station's license holder) is a public radio outlet in Seattle, WA.  They went on the air in 1952 at 90.5 FM and moved to the current dial position 6 years later.  KUOW is one of the highest rated NPR stations in the country.

KRBC

KRBC (K Reporter Broadcasting Company) went on the air in 1938 from Abilene, Texas.  They originally broadcast at 1420 AM before moving to 1470 AM in the late 1940s.  The frequency is currently home to News/Talk station KYYW.

KIQN

106.9 KIQN is a Country station licensed to Colorado City, Colorado.

Minster Oktoberfest / Radio Maria

Last night we took a trip up to Minster, Ohio for their annual Oktoberfest.  We put on our alpine hats, bought our jugs of beer to eat with some bratwurst and enjoyed walking around the shops and listening to the polka band playing from a gazebo in the center of town.  After scarfing down a pudding-filled cream puff and singing along to Sweet Caroline we decided two hours was enough and headed home.

I am a jackass.

On our way back to the car we walked past the studios of radio station 88.7 WHJM (With the Hearts of Jesus and Mary).  Licensed to Anna, Ohio, WHJM airs Catholic programming as part of the worldwide Radio Maria group of stations.  WHJM went on the air in June, 2006 and was almost immediately knocked off the air when lightning struck its tower.  They returned to the air in August of that year.  Radio Maria is based in Italy and broadcasts in over 60 countries through approximately 1,700 transmitters.

KCCK

88.3 KCCK is the only Jazz station in the state of Iowa.  The commercial-free, member-supported station is operated by Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

CFGP

CFGP went on the air in 1937 at 1200 on the AM dial.  They appeared on four different frequencies throughout the 1940s before settling in at 1050 AM in 1946.  In 1996, CFGP moved to 97.7 and became Hot Adult Contemporary "Sun FM".  They currently carry an Active Rock format.  CFGP is licensed to Grande Prairie, Alberta.

WLTU

92.1 WLTU plays Country music in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

KXXO

KXXO "Mixx 96" is an Adult Contemporary station licensed to Olympia, Washington.

KSOK

Stickers and a temporary tattoo from KSOK (KanSas OKlahoma).  1280 AM plays Classic Country and is licensed to Arkansas City, Kansas.  95.9 FM plays current Country and is licensed to Winfield, KS.

Radio Radicale

Radio Radicale emerged in the mid-1970s as the official radio station of Italy's political group Partito Radicale.  The commercial-free station is funded by the party as well as the Italian government in exchange for airing sessions of Parliament.  Despite being an official mouthpiece of the Radical Party, live debates from the Italian Senate and Chamber of Deputies are also broadcast along with party conventions from across the political spectrum.
Radio Radicale is based in Rome.

Radio Brandenburg

Antenne Brandenburg airs pop, oldies and current hit music from Potsdam, Germany.  It is part of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB), the national broadcaster for the German states of Berlin and Brandenburg.

WTOS

WTOS has carried a Rock format since the early 1970s.  Licensed to Skowhegan, Maine, Rock 105's 57,000 watts and tower location at the (W) Top Of Sugarloaf Mountain allows it to cover most of southern Maine as well as parts of New Hampshire and Quebec.  "The Mountain of Pure Rock" is now also simulcast on WTUX 101.1 FM and WTQX 96.7 FM.

Radio DePaul

A pair of sunglasses from student-run Radio DePaul in Chicago, Illinois.  The online-only outlet was voted 2010's Best College Station in the Nation from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.  Radio DePaul Sports streams student-hosted sports talk shows as well as play-by-play of DePaul University Blue Demons basketball, volleyball, soccer and softball.
