WMBS
WMBS (W Martha Buhl Snyder, named after the original owner's daughter) is an Adult Standards station licensed to Uniontown, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. They've been owned by the same family since they went on the air in 1937.
Adult Standards consists mostly of pre-rock & roll singers like Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. Some stations also play WWII-era big band music as well. This format is sometimes referred to as "Nostalgia."
ah thanks for that... we had one of those here in Melbourne, Australia. It was called Magic 693 that launched in the '90s and had lots of the nostalgia and big band music, but has since widened its playlist to a more general easy listening format and is now down the other end of the AM dial...
just curious, what is an "adult standards" station?
