94.7 KMET (
K METromedia) was a hugely successful Progressive/Album Rock station in Los Angeles, California from 1974 to 1987. Pioneering programmer
Tom Donahue brought his free form rock concept from KMPX in San Francisco and KPCC in Pasadena and, along with PD
Shadoe Stevens and a host of legendary DJs, turned KMET into one of the most influential rock stations in the country. By the 1980s, corporate interests, radio consultants, tighter playlists and staff turnover spelled the end of "The Mighty Met" and they flipped to a New Age format as "The Wave" KTWV in 1987.
