KAPY
KAPY broadcast in Port Angeles, Washington from 1958 until 2006. They were a 1000 watt daytime-only station that signed off at 6PM year round, no matter how late the sunset was in summer.
I worked at KAPY in 1978, my first professional radio job. Am visiting Port Angeles today for first time in 30 years. So disappointed this iconic AM daytime is gone.
I worked at KAPY (with Ron) with a couple of years out of market from ‘77 to 1989. The station was NOT on the air as early as ‘58, despite all the posts. It signed on in the early 60s. Also, we operated as late as sunset rule would allow. So 4:15 pm in December and 9:15 in June.
