WOI AM is one of the oldest radio stations in the United States having begun experimental broadcasts in 1911. Their first licensed transmission took place in April 1922 while the FM sister-station took to the air in 1949.
WOI is owned by
Iowa State University and is licensed to Ames with coverage through the entire Des Moines metropolitan area. Programming is a mix of syndicated NPR and
PRI shows along with locally produced Talk programs and BBC news.
