AM 1070 went on the air in 1948 in Madison, Wisconsin as WKOW. A call letter change took place in the early 1970s to WTSO (W Ten Seven ZerO) a reference to their frequency position. They originally carried a Country format but have also been a Talk and Adult Standards outlet. WTSO is currently a Sports station branded as "Fox Sports 1070 The Game."
WTSO, when it was WKOW, shared their callsign with then-sister station WKOW-TV, the current ABC affiliate in the Madison market. WKOW-AM/TV had a smiling cow for their logo. The K-O-W in their callsign was/is an intentional misspelling of cow and a reference to Wisconsin's dairy industry.
