KGY

KGY officially went on the air from Lacey, Washington in March 1922 making them one of the oldest stations in the United States.  Their history goes back even further, to early 1916 when Benedictine monks at St. Martin's College were issued a "Technical and Training School" radio license for station 7YS.  They moved to Olympia, Washington in the early 1930s.  KGY broadcast on various frequencies in their first two decades before settling at 1240 AM in 1941.  Formats over the years included Top-40, MOR, Adult Contemporary and Classic Hits.  They were sold in 2014 and switched call letters to KBUP becoming a Catholic/Religious station.  As of this posting, there is no station using the heritage KGY calls, however local translator K237FR is branded as "Olympia's KGY 95.3"
