Radio Austria International/Radio Österreich International was Austria's international shortwave service operated by the national public broadcaster
ORF (Österreichischer Rundfunk.) They launched in 1955 to increase awareness of Austria in other countries. RÖI ceased operations in 2003 due to financial reasons and presumably the rise of online broadcasting. It was replaced by
Ö1 International with transmissions on shortwave but with greatly reduced coverage and sound quality.
