WRCT

Radio broadcasting at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania began in 1949 with AM carrier current station WRCT (W Radio Carnegie Tech--the school's name at the time) that only reached a few buildings on campus.  They moved to 88.3 FM in 1974 and boosted their power from 10 watts to 100 watts in the mid-1980s allowing for a wider listening area.  Another power boost took place in 1994 which provided city-wide coverage and beyond.  WRCT is a Free Form station staffed by students, faculty and community members.
