In 1984, the WXAM callsign was traded in for WKAV, which stands for "Cavalier" (with a K) for the UVA Cavaliers.
Today, WKAV simulcasts it's signal on translator W231AD (at 94.1), which is also licensed to Charlottesville.
A little tower trivia, WKAV, it's translator, and a translator for sister-station WHTE-FM, all previously broadcast from an old tower along 7th Street SW, just south of the Amtrak station in Charlottesville, until the middle of last year.
WKAV now broadcasts from sister-station WCHV-AM's tower north of Charlottesville, while the translators all broadcast on Carter Mountain.
WKAV and W231AD carry a locally-produced Contemporary Christian format.
