WSSU was a public broadcaster originating from Sangamon State University in Springfield, Illinois. In 1995 Sangamon State merged with the University of Illinois system and renamed the University of Illinois at Springfield. At that time 91.9 FM switched call letters to
WUIS to better reflect the school's new name.
