KBAI

1150 AM KBAI went on the air in 1974 from Morro Bay, California with an MOR format.  By the late 1970s/early 80s they were Top-40 and in the 90s broadcast Adult Standards.  In 1997 KBAI was bought by Jacor Communications who took them off the air to make way for a power increase of a co-owned station in Los Angeles.

The KBAI callsign has moved up the coast a ways. AM 930 in Bellingham, Washington (between Seattle and Vancouver, Canada) started carrying the KBAI callsign in 2001. Until August of 2017, KBAI carried a Progressive Talk format and was affiliated with Air America during it's time on the air.

On August 1, 2017, KBAI dropped their talk format and capitalized on their callsign, switching to Classic Hits as "98.9 K-Bay", using a then-newly launched translator.

Present-day KBAI continues to air that same Classic Hits format and carries the "K-Bay" branding.

Hello friends and listeners. I started at KBAI in Morro Bay in 1975 shortly after graduating from Cal Poly. I loved it there and even now at 75 I’d still love to be playing music by the bay.
Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
