WJGL

WJGL "96.9 The Eagle" is a Classic Hits station in Jacksonville, Florida.

WJGS

WJGS played Middle-of-the-Road music from their beginnings in 1961 until 1988.  They were licensed to Houghton Lake, Michigan and the call letters stood for the original station owners (W) Jacob and Garnett Sparks.  98.5 FM is currently Classic Hits WUPS now licensed to Harrison, MI.

WJHM

"102 Jamz" is a Rhythmic CHR station in Daytona Beach, Florida.  Formerly WORZ, a Classic Rock outlet known as "Z102 FM," the station became WJHM in early 1988 and has carried an Urban/CHR format ever since.

WJIA

88.5 FM WJIA is a Contemporary Christian station licensed to Guntersville, Alabama.  I can find no evidence that they still simulcast at 90.3 FM.  It's unclear exactly why the "J" in Jesus is a fish hook but it likely refers to this.

WJIB

WJIB is an Adult Standards station licensed to Cambridge, Massachusetts.  "The Memories Station" is commercial-free and relies on listener donations to stay on the air.  AM 740 plays easy listening music from the last 100 years ranging from 1800s waltzes to recent lite pop.  They also occasionally air the intriguingly titled "Let's Talk About Radio" program on Sundays.  The call letters are named after a ship's sail known as a "jib" and explains the nautically-themed sticker.

WJIS / The Joy FM Network

"88.1 The Joy FM" is a Christian Adult Contemporary station in Bradenton, Florida.  WJIS is one of more than a dozen stations and translators in the Joy FM Network based in Sarasota, FL.

WJIV

101.9 FM WJIV is a Christian station licensed to Cherry Valley, New York.

WJJB / WRED

"The Big JAB" is an AM/FM combo in southern Maine that carries a Sports format.  96.3 FM WJJB is licensed to Gray, ME and 1440 AM WRED is licensed to Westbrook, ME.

WJJK

WJJK was a Country music station in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  1400 AM currently carries a Sports format as WBIZ.

WJJL

1440 AM WJJL (W John J Laux--the original owner) is an Oldies outlet in Niagara Falls, New York.  The locally owned and operated station first went on the air in 1947 and boasts having had the first two-way telephone talk show, Party Line in the early 1950s.

WJJO

WJJO is an Active Rock station in Madison, Wisconsin.  They are widely known to be one of the hardest rock stations in the country and don't "daypart" their music programming (i.e. playing heavier rock only at night.)  "94.1 JJO" is licensed to Watertown, WI.

WJJQ

WJJQ FM is a Full Service station that plays Lite Adult Contemporary music.  The AM half is an ESPN Radio affiliate.  Both are licensed to the northern Wisconsin city of Tomahawk.

WJJS / WJJX

"Jammin' JJS" is a Rhythmic Contemporary station licensed to Roanoke, Virginia at 104.9 FM.  They also simulcast on WJJX at 102.7 FM licensed to Appomattox, VA.

WJKK

Adult Contemporary WJKK is licensed to Vicksburg, Mississippi.  The decal dates to 2000 when they were known as "98 Mix."  Since then, they have slightly rebranded to the current "Mix 98.7"

WJKN

A 1997 sticker from WJKN licensed to (W)JacKsoN, Michigan.  At the time they carried a Full Service format (music, news, talk, local programming etc.) 1510 AM is currently owned by Spring Arbor University and simulcasts the Contemporary Christian format of sister station KTGG.

WJLB

WJLB (W John Lord Booth--the station's original owner) is a 50,000-watt Mainstream Urban station in Detroit, Michigan.  WJLB FM has been an Urban outlet since 1980 when the call letters and format migrated from WJLB 1400 AM.  97.9 was the second FM station to broadcast in the state when they went on the air in May, 1941. 

WJLF

WJLF "91.7 The Joy FM" plays Christian Adult Contemporary music in Gainesville, Florida.

WJLH / WJLU / WMFJ

"The Cornerstone" consists of 89.7 FM WJLU licensed to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, 90.3 FM WJLH licensed to Flagler Beach, FL and 1450 AM WMFJ in Daytona Beach, FL.  The FM signals carry a primarily Contemporary Christian format while the AM is Religious Teaching.

WJLK

"94.3 The Point" is a Hot Adult Contemporary station in Asbury Park, New Jersey.  The WJLK call letters were chosen in honor of the late (W) J. Lyle Kinmonth who owned the Asbury Park Press newspaper from the late 1800s until the mid-1940s.  The Press owned WJLK which first broadcast on November 20, 1947.

Happy 4th of July!

Although this station is from Munich, Germany, it seems entirely appropriate to use it for today's post.  The 4th of July is our country's birthday and any town worth its salt will be having a fireworks display to celebrate this all-American holiday.  Unfortunately, it turns out that "feierwerk" doesn't translate to "firework" like I thought it did.  The German word for firework is actually feuerwerk and, according to GoogleTranslate, feierwerk means "celebration factory."  Oh well, I already scanned the stickers so here they are....

Radio Feierwerk only broadcasts on weekends and shares the 92.4 FM frequency with three other stations.  Programming is aimed at those under 30 including music, art, education, politics and social issues.
