Radio at of the University of Calgary began with a carrier current station soon after the campus opened in 1960. A cable FM station began in 1972 and CJSW officially went on the air in 1985. The 18,000-watt station is run by a small staff along with more than 200 campus and community volunteers.

Notable former employees include television host Dick Clark and sportscaster Marv Albert both of whom attended Syracuse University. Today WOLF is a Fox Sports Radio affiliate.
97.9 FM WGRD is a Mainstream Rock station in Grand Rapids, Michigan and flagship of the syndicated Free Beer and Hot Wings Show. During the 1970s and '80s they were the dominant Top-40 station. A transition to Alternative Rock took place in the mid 1990s and a shift to Active Rock took place around 2010
KTRH has been on the air in Houston, Texas since 1929. One of their early broadcasting locations was (K) The Rice Hotel which was operated by the station's owner Jesse H. Jones. KTRH was located on multiple frequencies throughout the 1930s and early '40s before landing at 740 AM in 1942. Famous former KTRH employees include newscaster Dan Rather who was an anchor and reporter in the late 1950s and sports announcer Jim Nantz who worked there while in college in the late 1970s and early '80s. Today the 50,000-watt station carries a News/Talk format. Houston Rockets and Astros games are now heard on their sister station KBME.
Radio Down-Town began broadcasting in the mid-1980s from a pub in downtown Erlangen, Germany. The writing translates to "There is always a clever head in front of it" which explains Einstein's face and perhaps the fact that the DJs probably stared at a lot of foamy beer heads through the glass of their studio in the middle of a bar.
