On today's date in 1974 the world's first Universal Product Code was scanned at a grocery store in Troy, Ohio. The checkout counter used in the transaction was designed right here in Dayton by NCR (formerly National Cash Register) and the product scanned was a 10-pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum which cost 67 cents.

KKFI is an independent, non-commercial community radio station in Kansas City, Missouri. Block programming includes Jazz, Rock, Blues, Latin, Reggae and News/Talk. KKFI has been on the air since 1988.
KCMO was (you guessed it!) an Oldies station licensed to Kansas City, MissOuri. Beginning in 1977 the 94.9 frequency hosted a variety of formats including Easy Listening, Country and Top-40. From 1989 until 2005 they found success as "Oldies 95." As the audience for true oldies got older and less attractive from an advertising standpoint, KCMO turned into a Classic Hits station playing songs from the mid 60s to early 80s.
KPRS (KPeople's Radio Station) is an Urban Contemporary station licensed to Kansas City, Missouri. They began broadcasting in 1950 which makes "Hot 103 Jamz" the oldest continuously African American-owned radio station in the United States.
