KDHI

KDHI was located at 1250 AM and licensed to Twentynine Palms, California. Not sure what their format was and there doesn't appear to be a station licensed to that city at that spot on the dial anymore. Any further info on KDHI would be greatly appreciated.

In 1988 and 1989 they had a country music/talk radio format. At the same time, sister station KQYN 95.7 FM was broadcasting out of the same location with a rock format. KDHI signed off at midnight or earlier, depending upon the day of the week, and KQYN broadcast 24/7.

I applied for work at KDHI in 1963. Watched as the manager went through a stack of 45s -- dropping the needle on each one for a few seconds, then throwing most of them in the trash. Didn’t get the job, but probably wouldn’t have lasted long anyway. Too frantic.

I was born and raised in 29 Palms and grew up listening to KDHI AM & KQYN FM. After I graduated from San Jose State University I went back home to work at KDHI AM & KQYN FM. I did pretty much everything there for a couple of years before moving up to a radio station in the Palm Springs market and then on one in the Riverside/San Bernardino/Ontario market. Spinning tunes up and down the SoCal radio dial.
