WPAL was an awesome presence in Charleston. Primarily an R & B station, there was a heavy dose of Gospel, Blues, and a some Caribbean music as well.
The talk shows were very informative for the Black community with topics and features not covered by mainstream media. There were call-in shows where listeners could ask questions and/or make comments. The daily news spots always put a different spin on the news... a spin that was more relevant to their listeners.
Many youngsters learned about radio operations at WPAL. The station definitely had a "serve the community" attitude... I wish we, the community, had better served WPAL.
Sincerely submitted;
