88.7 FM WPSC is the student-run radio station at William Patterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. Before they could secure an FM signal in a crowded NY/NJ market they were an AM carrier current station heard on 590 AM. The call letters reflected the school's name at the time--William Patterson State College. For a time in the early 1970s WPSC arranged with WFMU to broadcast their programming for a few hours a week. Later in the decade they could be heard through televisions in a three county area via Cablevision's Channel 3. They received their FM license in 1983 and began broadcasting at 88.7 while playing mostly Top-40 music. Formats over the years also included Alternative and Hip-Hop. Their website says that their format is currently Indie Music with specialty shows on the weekend as well as play-by-play coverage of William Patterson Pioneer sports.
