KNKX
88.5 FM KNKX airs National Public Radio programming along with Jazz and Blues from studios in both Seattle and Tacoma, Washington. From 1966 to 2016 they had the call letters KPLU.
In 2015, Pacific Lutheran University, the PLU in KPLU, announced that they were going to sell the station to the University of Washington, which owns KUOW. KUOW is the other NPR station in Seattle.
A community-based non-profit group, Friends of 88.5, raised the $7,000,000 to buy the radio station (and it's simulcasters and translators), with some 20,000 people contributing.
Oddly both KNKX and KUOW carry NPR's two biggest shows, Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
KNKX, however, carries a large amount of Jazz programming, including their excellent Jazz24 Network on KNKX-HD2.
