Z Rock

Z Rock was a nationally syndicated Hard Rock/Heavy Metal radio network based out of Dallas, Texas. They existed from 1986 to 1996. I remember listening to our local Z Rock affiliate, 96.5 WZRZ out of Cincinnati which went on the air in 1990. At least one station still uses the Z Rock name and logo despite the network being defunct--KRQR from Orland, California. A surprising number of Z Rock stations lived on the AM dial including these three:

KMTW - Las Vegas, Nevada. Currently Spanish as KRLV.

KKZR - Houston, Texas. Currently News/Talk KNTH.

WLPZ - Westbrook, Maine. Currently carries a Sports format as WRED.

KKLZ

KKLZ was a Classic Rock station in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1986 until 2007.

The lettering on this 1992 decal has a silver/mirrored look which didn't translate well when scanned.

In May, 2007 KKLZ tweaked their format to Classic Hits.

Soon after, two former employees began a tribute site to KKLZ's days as a classic rocker along with a live365.com webstream. Tracks from Steely Dan, Neal Schon & Beth Hart, Robin Trower and Alice Cooper were played while making this post.

KOMP

KOMP is an Active Rock station from Las Vegas, Nevada. They started out as KVEG "K92" with an Album Rock format then switched to Top-40 and became KENO FM. In the early 80s they flipped back to AOR as KOMP with the first song being played being "Long Live Rock" by the Who. The call letters are derived from "comps" (complimentaries) which are incentives that casinos use to keep their best customers coming back--everything from free drinks and meals to airfare and limos for the high rollers.

The boobs over at KOMP would sound great coming out of this radio.
