WWSU

Yesterday I had a chance to go back to the campus of Wright State University for the first time in 18 years.  My wife is a student at WSU and I went with her to take care of some legal business.  The lawyer's office just happened to be down the hall from WWSU, where I spent a fair amount of time playing obscure new wave and post-punk music for the handful of people who could pick up its 10-watt signal.

Wow!  Things seem to have changed for the better at "Dayton's Wright Choice."  Gone is the dingy, closet-sized studio which was replaced with large, bright rooms and lots of chrome and glass.  The only thing missing was the giant wall of vinyl records which was idiotically sold off in the early 1990s for a short-sighted station fundraiser.

106.9 WWSU is a block-formatted station featuring Rock, Hip-Hop, R&B, Sports, Alternative and various other programming.  They are licensed to Fairborn, Ohio.

CKFM

"99.9 Virgin Radio" is a Contemporary Hit Radio station in Toronto, Ontario.  CKFM's Virgin branding began in 2008 after they switched from "Mix 99.9"

Radio Universal

A twenty-fifth anniversary sticker from Radio Universal which is based in Cusco, Peru.  They went on the air in 1983 at 1150 AM and now also broadcast on 103.3 FM as well as shortwave.

2BAY

Bay FM 99.9 is a volunteer-run, community radio station from Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia.

WSRZ

WSRZ was an Oldies station licensed to Coral Cove, Florida.  In 2007, they dropped the music from the 1950s and early 1960s and became a Classic Hits station "107.9 WSRZ."

KVET-FM

98.1 KVET is a Country station in Austin, Texas.

KVET-AM

1300 AM "The Zone" is a Sports station from Austin, Texas. 
The history of KVET dates to just after World War II when a group of men, including future Texas governor John Connally, pooled their resources to start a radio station in Austin.  They were all veterans so they chose the call letters KVET.  1300 began with a Full Service format before switching to Country in the late 1960s. 

KVEG

KVEG(as) is a Rhythmic Top-40 station licensed to Mesquite, Nevada near Las Vegas.  "Hot 97.5" signed on the air in March, 2001.

KVDU

KVDU is an internet-only radio station broadcasting from the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado.  Their website was down when I tried to listen but you can give it a shot here.

KVCU

"Radio 1190" KVCU is a student-run Freeform station from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  They went on the air in November, 1998.

KVEN

"The Boomer" KVEN was an Oldies station in Ventura, California.  1450 AM is currently a Sports station affiliated with the ESPN Radio Network.

KVEC

AM 920 KVEC is a News/Talk station licensed to San Luis Obispo, California.  They are celebrating their 75th anniversary having gone on the air in 1937.

KWMR

KWMR (K West MaRin) is a Community radio station licensed to Point Reyes Station, California. They went on the air in May, 1999 and broadcast a variety of music including Jazz, Classical, Blues, and Americana as well as shows about food, art, the environment and public affairs.

WNRJ

"Power 105.7" was a short-lived Top-40 station licensed to Marysville, Ohio.  "The Power Pig" debuted in 1990 and was gone a year later when they became Urban "Hot 105" WWHT.  The frequency is now Classic Rock "105.7 The Brew" WBWR licensed to the Columbus suburb of Hilliard, OH.

WKRV

107.1 WKRV "The Kurv" plays Classic Hits in Vandalia, Illinois.

WEIC

WEIC broadcast in Charleston, Illinois from 1954 to 2012, most recently with a Gospel format.  1270 AM is currently News/Talk WRJM.  Anybody know what the meaning of "Full-Time Alert" is?

WADR

WADR was a Country station licensed to Remsen, New York.  In March, 2012 WADR became WRCK which simulcasts a Sports format with 1550 AM WUSP.

Radio Sticker of the Day Mailbag - WOMC

Yesterday the mailman delivered another excellent haul of stickers courtesy of Dan Sys in Vancouver, British Columbia.  I had been attempting to get a sticker from the station below multiple times since I started keeping records in 1997 but was never able to until now.  Thanks Dan!

104.3 WOMC (Wayne Oakland and Macomb County) is a Classic Hits station in Detroit, Michigan.  They recently transitioned to their current format from Oldies which they had carried since around 1990.  Prior to that they were a Soft AC station after many years of playing Beautiful Music.

WADN

WADN was a Folk & Acoustic music station licensed to Concord, Massachusetts from 1989 to the mid-1990s.  By 1997, all music-oriented programming was replaced with a Business & Finance format which now carries the call letters WBNW.  The Folk format lives on courtesy of a former WADN employee at "Troubadour 1700 AM."
Walden Pond is a lake in Concord made famous by philosopher Henry David Thoreau who lived there for two years.  His experience was penned in Walden; or, Life in the Woods which was published in 1854.

KRWC

Licensed to Buffalo, Minnesota, KRWC (K Radio for Wright County) broadcasts Oldies, Country and Polka music along with local news and weather.  They are also an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins Radio Network.
