KEDA
1540 AM KEDA was the first Mexican American-owned station in the U.S. and one of the first ever Tejano stations. "Jalapeno Radio" went on the air in San Antonio, Texas in 1966 and will celebrate their 50th anniversary in March, 2016.

KEDA was and has been an important station in Radio terms but also in musical terms. I believe Mr. Davilla was partners with a man named Edgerton when they built KEDA. They had previously owned KCCT in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Before KCCT and KEDA, Raul Cortez, Sr. was founder of KCOR San Antonio. He put that on the air in 1946, after serving in WWII. He'd been a program producer and time broker on several San Antonio stations. He was born in Mexico, but was a naturalized citizen by the time KCOR started. Mr. Cortez started ch 41 KCOR-TV in 1955, FYI: There were other mostly Hispanic owned stations in Corpus Christi. Ch22 KVDO ended up with a large chunk of CH3 KIII when it started in the early 60's.

KEDA is important in Tejano music terms and they have usually had cooler stickers than KCOR, but KCOR and Mr. Cortez were earlier.
