1440 AM originally went on the air in Babylon, New York in 1958 with the call letters WBAB. They simulcast with their FM sister station before becoming WNYG (
W New
York
Gospel) in 1976. Formats over the years include Standards, Oldies, Spanish, CHR and Gospel. For a short time around 2000, WNYG was known as "Student Radio" with a plan to train high school and college students while simultaneously running a commercial station. As of this posting, WNYG is running a Spanish Religious format as "
Radio Cantico Nuevo".
