I'm a WBIM alum (BSC '85) and back then we weren't 100% student run. We had yto answer yo the head of the Student Union Building...wgho would choose the station management, all mail to the station was opened by him, there were a lot of records we never got because he decided we weren't going to play them. It was Hell back then, believe me.

I'm a WBIM alum (BSC '85) and back then we weren't 100% student run. The head of the Student Union Bldg was the De Facto GM...he chose the student management and even worse, all mail to the station went thru him. All mail to the station was opened by him. Records that were sent to the station were opened by him and he would not give us certain albums. Before my final semester, mt ex-fiancee and I had split up and since I didn't know where i was going to be living at that time, I arranged to have my absentee ballot sent to me c/o the station. You guessed it...it was opened by him. WBIM was micro-managed by the guy to a ridiculous degree. I'm glad that today WBIM has autonomy, and every time I go back for BSC Homecoming and do a airshift as part of the alumni takeover, me and the other oldtimers have a lot of tales to tell about the not-so good old days.
