WAPI

WAPI was formed from the merging of WSY, the first radio station in Alabama, and WMAV which was owned by what is now Auburn University.  The new station's first broadcast was in 1925 with the call letters chosen for (W) Alabama Polytechnic Institute which was what Auburn University was called at the time.  WAPI relocated to Huntington, Alabama in 1928 and moved to its present dial location of 1070 AM in 1942.

A mid-1980s sticker from "I95" WAPI-FM in Birmingham, Alabama.  They were a dominant Top-40 station for about a decade and were the first home of Mark Thompson and Brian Phelps, Radio Hall of Famers whose Mark and Brian Show ran on LA's KLOS from 1987 until 2012.
