Tough to find a whole lot of information about this station. I know it's from Little Rock, Arkansas and I think it ran a Top-40 format. Not only doesn't KXLR exist anymore but there doesn't appear to be a station at 1150 at all in Arkansas anymore.

KXLR was 1150 LITTLE ROCK AR (ABC) COUNTRY FORMAT according to RADIO & TV STATION GUIDE by VANE A. JONES, 14th edition, 1981. Cross-referencing my "Across the Dial '78" book, it was the same in 1978.
I knew Larry Dean and Bob Roberts who were DJ's at KXLR in Rose City (North Little Rock). I used to visit the station in the early 70's. It had a country format and broadcast Arkansas Traveler Baseball Games. It was the station I listened to 99% of the time I lived there.
I worked at KXLR 1150 in the mid 70's. It was owned by Starr Broadcasting group with headquarters in Metarie, La. They also owned stations in other states including Michigan, Texas, Kansas, New York and Louisiana. I worked for Starr first at WBOK New Orleans, then transfered to Little Rock to be closer to family. I worked the 7pm to midnight shift weekdays. We were 5000 watts daytime and 1000 watts directional nighttime. The morning man when I started was Chuck Thomas, which was his air name and I can't remember his real name, later Duke Anthony was the morning man, Earl Wilmes was his real name. Mid day was Bob Abel, which I think was his real name. Then Larry Dean, which I know was his real name, was the afternoon drive man and the station program director. I came on after Larry Dean. Bob Roberts, AKA Jim Melton, was the news director. Bob and I left the station at about the same time and we both went to KBHS in Hot Springs where Bob was the program director.
I worked for Larry Dean at KAKA in Dermott. Larry was a great mentor and teacher. Larry passed in 2008 and many of us old radio folks owe our start to him. R.I.P. Larry Dean!

If anyone worked with Bill and can help me with the dates he was at KXLR, I would appreciate that and any pictures or memories.
I also knew Duke Anthony. Y'all had a great station there. Good people and good format.
I lived on the Air Base in the early 60s. KXLR was the station all the kids listened to and it was NOT country.
The XLR stood for "Across from Little Rocn".
They had a contest, the details of which I no longer remember, and the winner got to go to the studio for a 2 or 3 hours show. I won and had a blast.

My dad listened to KXLR back in the day. It was country but mostly he listened for baseball and the horse racing scores. And he loved Brother Howe. Good memories.
