WRFD

"Life Changing Radio" AM 880 WRFD (W Rural Free Delivery) is a Christian Talk station in Columbus, Ohio.  The daytime-only station began broadcasting in 1947 with programming aimed at the agricultural market but according to Wikipedia all farm-related shows have been dropped.



WRFD signs off each night to protect the signal of WCBS in New York.

Radio U

I rescued this small Radio U sticker from the side of a mail container at work today.  I have other decals from the station but hadn't seen this logo before.

Radio U is a network of Christian Rock/Alternative stations based in Columbus, Ohio including translators in Washington, New York and Oklahoma.

 The 98.7 translator (W254BJ) is licensed to Springfield, Ohio.

102.5 FM (W273BQ) is licensed to Dayton, Ohio.

 

101.9 FM is translator station K270AF licensed to Grover Beach, California

WQMF

95.7 WQMF has been a Rock station in Louisville, Kentucky since 1981--first as Album Oriented Rock and now Classic Rock.  For some reason their mascot has always been a weasel.  WQMF is licensed across the Ohio River to Jeffersonville, Indiana.

WHKF

WHKF "99.3 Kiss FM" has been a Top-40 station in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania since 2001.

KUJ AM & FM

1420 AM KUJ is a News/Talk/Sports station licensed to Walla Walla, Washington.  They've been on the air since 1928.

KUJ-FM "Power 99" is a Top-40 station licensed to Burbank, Washington.  They are no longer co-owned with KUJ-AM.

KONO

A sticker circa 2000 from Oldies station KONO in Helotes, Texas near San AntONiO.  KONO is now considered a Classic Hits station.

CKEY

Toronto's CKEY became an Oldies station around 1984 after years playing MOR music and Top-40 before that.  The frequency is currently "Sportsnet 590 The Fan."

Radio Hauraki

Radio Hauraki is a network of Rock radio stations based in Auckland, New Zealand. They began in 1966 as an illegal pirate broadcasting from the ship Tiri in the Hauraki Gulf just outside the 3 mile territorial waters limit. The boat in the bottom sticker is a nod to their beginnings on the water which saw them at sea for 1,111 days before being allowed to broadcast legally on land in 1970. They were the first private commercial radio station in New Zealand's modern broadcasting era. Hauraki is now heard on 16 different frequencies across the country and plays a mix of new and classic rock.

Radio Fritz is a youth-oriented music station based in Potsdam, Germany.

R.I.P. Jeffrey Stoehr

My best friend Jeff lost his battle with cancer today.  We met in our college days around 1992 and both worked in the video rental section of a local grocery store.  We immediately bonded over a shared taste in music and film and went to countless movies, concerts and sporting events together.  He was a really great guy and I'm still coming to grips with the fact that he's gone.  May you rest in peace my friend...

"97X" WOXY was an Alternative station in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1983 until 2004.  Bogart's is a music venue where Jeff and I saw a few shows including Tori Amos, the Foo Fighters and Garbage.

KABD

107.7 KABD is an Adult Hits station licensed to Ipswich, North Dakota.

WVSU

WVSU is a non-commercial Smooth Jazz station broadcasting from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

WQLZ

WQLZ was a Top-40 station in Cheboygan, Michigan throughout most of the 1980s.  105.1 FM is currently "Real Rock" WGFM.

WLND

"The Legend" was a Classic Country station located at 98.1 FM in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  They were on the air from the summer of 2007 until the fall of 2009 before flipping to a Hot AC format.  98.1 FM is currently an Adult Hits station branded as "The Lake."  WLND is licensed to Signal Mountain, TN.

WFXF

"103.3 The Fox" was WFXF, a Classic Rock station from Indianapolis, Indiana circa 1991.  103.3 FM is currently Alternative "X103" WRZX.

WBNV

"93BNV" is an Adult Contemporary station licensed to (W) BarNesVille, Ohio.  They are one of about 30 stations in the Cleveland Indians Radio Network.

KSTZ

"Star 102.5" KSTZ is a Hot Adult Contemporary station in Des Moines, Iowa. 

KFXD

"KF95" KFXD was an Adult Contemporary station licensed to Nampa, Idaho.  94.9 FM is currently an Adult Album Alternative station known as "The River."

"KF95" was co-owned with KFXD AM, a News/Talk station which now has the call letters KIDO.

CHXX

"X2 Rock 100.9" CHXX is a French-language Modern Rock station licensed to Donnacona, Quebec near Quebec City.

Radio Name Game - Roxy

KRXY "94.5 Roxy" is a Hot AC station licensed to Shelton, Washington.

Well, that's it for the almost month-long Radio Name Game series.  I've run out of stickers from stations  with people-names (and I can't find my George FM sticker from New Zealand...arghh.)  There are plenty more stations that exist(ed) that I don't have decals from including Tom FM, Chuck FM, Ted FM, Kate FM, Steve FM, Mac and my favorite, the former simulcast of Orville and Wilbur from the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Future Name Game stickers will appear if I ever get any more.  Stay tuned...
