WECK

1230 AM WECK is an Adult Standards station licensed to the Buffalo, New York suburb of Cheektowaga.  These stickers date to around 1980 when they carried a very short-lived AC/Oldies hybrid format (along with a fantastic "The Roll That Rocks" slogan given the meaning of their call letters).

The WECK call letters are named after a kümmelweck roll which is a crusty bun topped with kosher salt and caraway seeds.  Kümmelweck is an essential part of a staple of Buffalo cuisine, the Beef on Weck sandwich.  Thinly sliced, rare roast beef piled on a salty bun dipped in au jus and maybe a little horseradish.  Mmmmmmmmm....brings back good memories of living in western New York as a kid.

Some useless trivia:  The national restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings was originally named Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck aka BW3.
