The WRIF Depository

On this date in 1971, Detroit's WRIF went on the air and became a pioneer in the Album-Oriented Rock format.  "The Riff" started printing up racetrack-shaped stickers in the late 1970s and over the years hundreds of different decals have been printed.  Most WRIF stickers feature a band or artist, while others are station catchphrases/DJs, Detroit-area sports teams or specific concerts.  I have approximately 100 in my collection, some of which have already appeared on the blog and can be seen here, here, here and here.

Radio Alfa

Radio Alfa was an Oldies/AC station broadcasting from Krakow, Poland.  They were on the air from 1993 until 2013 when they became KRK FM.

Radio Provincia

Radio Provincia broadcasts at 97.1 FM and 1270 AM from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

WYGS

91.1 FM WYGS plays Southern Gospel music in Columbus, Indiana.  They are also heard on three other stations and two translators in the southeastern Indiana/Cincinnati, Ohio listening area.

WMXM

88.9 FM WMXM broadcasts from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois.  The 295-watt station went on the air in the fall of 1973.  John Hogan, a 1979 graduate of LFC, went on to become the CEO of Clear Channel Radio where he was responsible for the operations of nearly 1200 stations and numerous nationally syndicated shows.

WJWL

"Maxima 900" WJWL was a Spanish CHR station licensed to Georgetown, Delaware.  They are currently a Regional Mexican outlet branded as "La Raza" with the same WJWL call letters.

WETB

790 AM WETB (W East Tennessee Broadcasting) has been on the air in Johnson City, Tennessee since 1947.  Past formats include Top-40 and Easy Listening and they currently broadcast Christian/Gospel music.

CILU

102.7 CILU broadcasts from the campus of Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario.  They went on the air on March 1, 2005.

WBNS

"97.1 The Fan" WBNS is an all-Sports station and ESPN Radio affiliate in Columbus, Ohio.  They currently simulcast programming on their sister station WBNS 1460 AM.  The call letters stand for Wolfe Banks News Shoes which were once the three cornerstone businesses of the Wolfe's, the most powerful family in the city of Columbus' history.

KNGY

"Energy 92.7" KNGY was a Dance formatted station in San Francisco, California from 2004 until 2009.  Besides a current-based mix of Dance music, they also played a mix of Top-40, Disco, R&B and Club tracks from the 1970s, 80s and 90s.  KNGY employed openly gay DJs (and a sportscaster) and relied heavily on advertisers looking to reach the gay community. 

WNRP

AM 1620 WNRP is a News/Talk station licensed to Gulf Breeze, Florida near Pensacola.  They are now also simulcast on translator W222BR at 92.3 FM.

WLAB

"Star 88.3" WLAB is a Contemporary Christian station in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

XEQK

1350 AM XEQK broadcasts a Tropical music in Mexico City, Mexico.  They are owned by the Instituto Mexicano de la Radio which was established in 1983 and operates 17 terrestrial radio stations throughout the country.
XEQK signed on the air in 1938 and soon began broadcasting the time every minute on the minute interspersed with commercial announcements.  Somehow, this format became a success and the station became known as "La estacion de la hora exacta," (The exact time station.)  The exact time came from the National Astronomical Observatory which at that time was located in Tacubaya near Mexico City.

93 FM

93 FM is (was?) a Classic Hits station in New Zealand.  If anyone knows what city they broadcast from or what the call sign was, send me an email at radiodecals@gmail.com

In the 2007 edition of 'World Radio TV Handbook' there is around 30 'Classic Hits' stations listed on FM in New Zealand.
Just one of them on 93 Mhz; 'Classic Hits, West Coast' on 93.1 MHz.
I also found five (5) 'Classic Hits' on AM medium wave.
