The station began in 1966 and chose their call letters from the initials of (W) Richard Dean Leidy, an adjunct professor that founded the radio/television department at what was then called Ashland College.

98.5 FM WUPS is a Classic Hits station licensed to Harrison, Michigan. Their 100,000-watt signal covers most of the northern and central part of the state. This sticker is from 2001 when they probably carried an Adult Contemporary or Hot AC format. At one time WUPS was a CHR station and their call letters were actually chosen because of the United Parcel Service and their slogan was "We Deliver The Hits!"
