WCVM

"94.7 The Effect" was a Modern Christian Rock station licensed to Bronson in south central Michigan.  In 2008 they were bought by Taylor University and now simulcast the Contemporary Christian programming that originates from WBCL in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Other Effect Radio stickers can be seen here.

WCVR

A 1998 sticker from WCVR, a Country station licensed to Randolph, Vermont.  They flipped to Classic Rock around 2003 and were sold to Vermont Public Radio in 2010.  102.1 FM is currently WVXR broadcasting VPR's Classical programming.

WCVS

WCVS is a Classic Rock station licensed to Virden, Illinois.  They are now known as "96.7 The Boss."

WCWA

An Official Tooth Ranger sticker from the serialized 1970s radio comedy The Secret Adventures of the Tooth Fairy.  Another (partial) Tooth Fairy sticker can be seen here.

This paper sticker is from Toledo, Ohio’s WCWA which was probably either a Top-40 or Oldies station at the time.  1230 AM is currently a Fox Sports affiliate.

Memorial Day - WDPR

Happy Memorial Day everybody! Enjoy the unofficial start of summer and remember all those who sacrificed their lives while serving their country in the United States Armed Forces.

Yesterday we went to the Dayton Heritage Festival which is held every year on Memorial Day weekend at Carillon Park.  In the evening we had the pleasure of seeing my stepson Randy play the bassoon with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.  The concert was excellent and we finished the night watching fireworks explode high above the park's bell tower.

WDPR [W Dayton Public Radio] had a booth at the festival where I grabbed one of these handy stick fans.

88.1 FM WDPR is Dayton, Ohio's Classical radio station.  They signed on the air in 1985 and also broadcast at 89.9 FM licensed to Greenville, OH.

WCWP

WCWP broadcasts a block-programmed Variety format from the (W) CW Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, New York.  WCWP's first transmission from October 18, 1961 can be heard here.

WCWS

"WOO 91" is a student-run station from The (W) College of WooSter in Wooster, Ohio.  WCWS went on the air in 1968 although radio at Wooster dates back all the way to 1922.

WTWR

Detroit, Michigan's WTWR "Tower 92" started out as an Adult Top-40/Oldies station in the late 1970s.  By 1981 they had become a full-fledged CHR station but this format lasted a mere 15 months before they switched to Country.  The tower in their name referred to General Motor's newly-built Renaissance Center where the WTWR's studios were located.  92.3 FM is currently Urban Oldies/Adult Contemporary WMXD "Mix 92.3"

The back of the sticker dates it to 1980.  (Click it bigger.)  I'd love to wear one of those "Tower 92" belt buckles and t-shirts while drinking my 39-cent Big Gulp.  Somebody wrote "WCXI-FM" at the top--these were the call letters after WTWR flipped to Country in 1982.

WCXL

WCXL is a Hot Adult Contemporary station licensed to Kill Devil Hills on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  The 100,000 watt station is now branded as "Beach 104."

National Waiters and Waitresses Day - WXOU

Today is National Waiters and Waitresses Day. Go out to eat and leave your favorite server a little something extra. Besides, these workers make a paltry $2.13 per hour in many states (mine included) and depend on tips for the majority of their income. This minimum wage has remained the same for 22 years!

88.3 WXOU serves up a Variety format from the campus of Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Michigan.  They were named the Michigan Association of Broadcasters College Station of the Year in 2012 and 2013.

WCYK

A 2002 sticker from WCYK in Charlottesville, Virginia.  The Country formatted station is now known as "HitKicker 99.7"  WCYK is licensed to Staunton, VA.

WCYN

WCYN is an AM/FM combo licensed to (W) CYNthiana, Kentucky.  1400 AM airs a Country format while 102.3 FM plays Oldies from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

The most famous log cabin in Kentucky--or perhaps anywhere--is the one where Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809 in what is now LaRue County.

WCYO

WCYO "Coyote Country 100.7" is a Country music station licensed to Irvine, Kentucky.

Radio Sticker of the Day Mailbag - KGMZ/KULA

Last week I received a nice package of Hawaiian radio stickers from a visitor to this blog.  Thanks Louise (and son!) 

107.9 FM KGMZ was an Oldies station licensed to Aiea, Hawaii near Honolulu circa the late 1990s.  Their signal was simulcast on 1460 AM KULA.  107.9 is still an Oldies outlet but now branded as "Kool Gold" KKOL.  1460 AM is currently KHRA featuring Korean-language programming.

WBSN

89.1 FM WBSN is a Contemporary Christian station in New Orleans, Louisiana.  "Life Songs" is also heard on two other stations and one translator in the southeastern part of the state.

KGCB

KGCB "Radio Shine" is a Contemporary Christian station licensed to Prescott, Arizona.  An older KGCB sticker can be seen here.

WRGA

1470 AM WRGA is a News/Talk station in (W) Rome, GeorgiA. 

WTLQ

WTLQ was a Talk station circa the mid-to-late 1990s licensed to Pine Island Center, Florida near Fort Myers.  "Smart Talk 1200" carried syndicated talkers such as Don & Mike, G. Gordon Liddy and Don Imus.  1200 AM is currently News/Talk WINK.

WIHT

WIHT "Hot 99.5" is a Top-40 station in Washington DC.  The frequency was home to WGAY, an Easy Listening/Beautiful Music station that lasted almost 40 years--from 1960 to the late 1990s.
