KEYX

"Key 100.3" KEYX was a short-lived, "uptempo rock and soul" station in Phoenix, Arizona circa 1986-1987.  Their hybrid format, a mix of Alternative and R&B (think New Order into Anita Baker into Afrika Bambaataa into Public Image Ltd.) is one that may have never been attempted before in the history of commercial radio--it's certainly the first I had heard of it.  At some point KEYX became "Arizona's Free Form Radio" featuring all-British music in the morning, Classic Rock and Jazz in middays, Rock/Alternative/Industrial in the evening and Reggae/Dance/R&B and World Music in the overnight slot.  After a station sale the new owners blew up "Key 103" and they became "The Wave" KGRX with a format flip to mostly-instrumental light Jazz and New Age.
