Burning Man Information Radio

Yesterday's post reminded me that I have some other stickers from a temporary radio station broadcasting exclusively at a festival.  Burning Man has been taking place in Black Rock City, Nevada since 1990.  It's an arts and music gathering that abides by ten principles including radical self-expression, communal effort, participation, civic responsibility and leaving no trace.  The week-long event is famous for the symbolic burning of a large wooden effigy--"The Man"--on the next-to-last night of the festival.  I was given these decals by the guy who designs them for Burning Man's radio station.  These are some of the most treasured stickers in my entire collection because some are parodies/homages to well-known California radio stickers of the past.  OK..."well-known" if you're a radio sticker nerd like me.

This sticker is a tribute to KFAT, a Country/Americana station in the 1970s and early 80s from Gilroy, California.  See the original here.

A "rainbow racetrack" sticker as an homage to the famous KLOS/Los Angeles logos from the 1980s.  See some originals here.

A couple of diamond decals based on the ubiquitous stickers from San Jose's KOME.  See the originals here.

Electric Forest Radio

Electric Forest is a four-day music festival taking place in late June in Rothbury, Michigan.  2025 was the 13th festival which mostly focuses on electronic and jam bands.  A co-worker went this year and brought back some really cool stickers for me.  I'm guessing EF Radio is a micro-broadcaster heard only on the grounds during the festival.  There is no licensed station at 99.5 FM near Rothbury.  Their website appears to be streaming 24/7

WCFB? WCEN?

I just discovered that I had two of these "B94.5" stickers.  One says WCFB on the back and the other says WCEN.  Daytona Beach, Florida's WCFB (now "Star 94.5") was a Country station "B94.5" in the early 1990s.  WCEN in Saginaw/Bay City, Michigan is a Country station but I can't find any proof that they were ever known as "B94.5"   Anybody know for sure what station this sticker is from?  Leave a comment.

Portugal Part III / Radio Comercial

From Porto we took a train to southern Portugal and stayed for a few days in a quaint fishing village called Salema. We took a tuktuk tour of a few places in the Algarve Region and saw some gorgeous beaches, landscapes and fortresses.  The Bengali caves in Lagos were particularly stunning.  Our last stop before catching the train back to Lisbon was a jewelry workshop in Albufeira where we each made our own rings.

Radio Comercial is a national broadcaster based in Lisbon with multiple frequencies around the country.  They began in 1979 as part of Radiodifusao Portuguesa with the name being chosen because it was the only RDP station to allow advertising at the time.  Radio Comercial airs contemporary Pop and Rock music.
