KIKK

KIKK was a Country station from Houston, Texas. This "Young Country" decal is circa 1998. 95.7 FM is currently CHR "Hot 95.7" KKHH.

Z Rock

Z Rock was a nationally syndicated Hard Rock/Heavy Metal radio network based out of Dallas, Texas. They existed from 1986 to 1996. I remember listening to our local Z Rock affiliate, 96.5 WZRZ out of Cincinnati which went on the air in 1990. At least one station still uses the Z Rock name and logo despite the network being defunct--KRQR from Orland, California. A surprising number of Z Rock stations lived on the AM dial including these three:

KMTW - Las Vegas, Nevada. Currently Spanish as KRLV.


KKZR - Houston, Texas. Currently News/Talk KNTH.

WLPZ - Westbrook, Maine. Currently carries a Sports format as WRED.

KODA "Sunny 99.1" is an Adult Contemporary station licensed to Houston, Texas. They were the #1-rated radio station in that market according to the latest Arbitron results.

KKHT was a Top-40 station in Houston, Texas circa 1986/'87. 96.5 FM is currently a Hot AC station "Mix 96.5" KHMX.

KUHF

KUHF is a public radio station in Houston, Texas which airs a Classical music format. They've been owned and operated by the University of Houston since going on the air in 1950. KUHF was originally at 91.3 FM before moving to 88.7 in 1970. In 1986 a local fine arts radio station flipped formats and donated its entire music library to KUHF with the condition that they change their format to Classical. Prior to this they carried NPR News and Jazz. KUHF is still an National Public Radio affiliate broadcasting All Things Considered, Car Talk and Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me as well as other NPR staples.

Boxing Day

The day after Christmas is Boxing Day which is a public holiday in many countries. Traditionally, it is a day to open the "Christmas Box" and share its contents with the poor and less fortunate. Sometimes workers such as mail carriers and paperboys will receive money from households or employees might get a Christmas bonus from their bosses. In some places Boxing Day has become a huge shopping day similar to the day after Thanksgiving in the United States. America doesn't celebrate Boxing Day because we hate poor people it's a British thing and we wouldn't understand.

105.7 KHCB is the flagship of the 21-station KHCB Network located mostly in Texas but also with stations in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. The 100.9 sticker is from K265DH, one of their 6 translator stations in Texas.
