Market #1s - San Francisco - KCBS
KCBS (K Columbia Broadcasting System) is a News station licensed to San Francisco, California. KCBS first went on the air in 1921 but their history as an experimental radio station goes all the way back to 1909. They are the eighth oldest fully licensed station in the United States and the oldest in the Bay Area. In 1968 KCBS became one of the first all-news stations in the country. "All News 740" was the number one rated station in San Francisco in the latest radio ratings.

Shirts and Stix - KFOG
During a recent move I rediscovered a few boxes of old radio t-shirts that I had forgotten about. I have two dressers full of radio tees that I wear on a regular basis but all of these boxed ones are too small or ragged to actually wear (and I don't have it in me to actually throw them away.) For the next few days and occasionally afterward I'll post a picture of one of these vintage radio shirts along with accompanying sticker(s). We'll begin with northern California's KFOG.
KFOG (named for the Bay area's famous sea fog) is an Adult Album Alternative station from San Francisco, California. They also broadcast on KFFG at 97.7 FM licensed to Los Altos, CA. KFOG switched from Easy Listening to AOR in 1982 and has carried a rock-based format for over 27 years. At one point in the early 1980s the Bay area had six Rock stations, none of which survived until now except KFOG.

Stars
A few stickers and a keychain from "Star" branded stations, a name so stunningly boring it makes "Mix" stations look exciting by comparison. It's the radio equivalent of naming your dog Spot. My records show that I have 60 stickers from "Star" stations...here are three of them:
CFSR is an Adult Contemporary station licensed to Abbotsford, British Columbia. It's a repeater station of 98.3 CKSR from nearby Chilliwack, BC.
KIOI is a Hot Adult Contemporary station from San Francisco, California. Around 2001 "Star 101.3" had an 80s emphasis in their playlist but they're now a traditional Hot AC outlet. The KIOI call letters come from their 101 position on the radio dial.
WBAM was a Top-40 station from Montgomery, (W) AlaBAMa. They're currently a Country station known as "Bama Country 98.9" with the same call letters.
