Radio Name Game - Roxy

KRXY "94.5 Roxy" is a Hot AC station licensed to Shelton, Washington.

Well, that's it for the almost month-long Radio Name Game series.  I've run out of stickers from stations  with people-names (and I can't find my George FM sticker from New Zealand...arghh.)  There are plenty more stations that exist(ed) that I don't have decals from including Tom FM, Chuck FM, Ted FM, Kate FM, Steve FM, Mac and my favorite, the former simulcast of Orville and Wilbur from the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Future Name Game stickers will appear if I ever get any more.  Stay tuned...

Radio Name Game - Sandra

Sandra FM was a pirate radio station from the village of Aalten in eastern Netherlands (or at least that's where the contact address was from...who knows where they actually broadcast from.)  I cannot find a single reference to the station anywhere online and the only way I know it's from a pirate station is that someone wrote it on the back.  If you have any info on Sandra FM feel free to leave a comment.
The Dutch have a rich tradition of illegal broadcasting that continues to this day.  Last year, 1600 warnings were issued and 60 fines levied to pirate operators and landowners who allowed them to operate on their property.  Another mysterious Dutch pirate sticker can be seen here.

Radio Name Game - Rebecca

I can find very little about what Rebecca Radio was other than that they were based in Emmen, Netherlands.  A short article from 2004 reports that a chunk of their staff had been let go.  The entire station presumably went away shortly thereafter due to financial difficulties.

Radio Name Game - Veronica

Radio Veronica was an illegal, offshore broadcaster that became the most popular radio station in the Netherlands.  In the mid-1970s they gained a legal radio license within the Dutch public broadcasting system.  Read more about them here.  And here.

These three stickers are also from The Netherlands and may or may not have anything to do with the original Radio Veronica (or each other for that matter.)  It is likely that they simply used the Veronica because of its past influence on Dutch radio.

Radio Veronica One began broadcasting in 1977 from Turin, Italy.

Radio Name Game - Stella

There are multiple stations that go by the name "Radio Stella."  I think this link is the station for the sticker above which is based in Tortoli, Italy.

Radio Name Game - Isabelle

Isabelle FM plays French and international Pop along with Dance, Techno and House music.  I tried listening live through both The Lounge and TuneIn and could barely hear the station through the noise of what sounded like FM static and fading in and out.  Very strange.
Isabelle FM is based in Tocane-Saint-Apre, France.

Radio Name Game - Jack

"93.1 Jack FM" KCBS (K Columbia Broadcasting System) is an Adult Hits station in Los Angeles, California.  Their playlist is sprinkled with more Classic Alternative music than most similarly-formatted stations due to the legacy of LA's KROQ FM.

"102.9 Jack FM" WNPT was a satellite-fed Adult Hits station licensed to Marion, Alabama.  In 2011 they flipped to "Q Country 102.9"

A keychain from CJAQ "92.5 Jack FM" in Toronto, Ontario.  They stuck with the Adult Hits format from 2003 to 2009 (at one point becoming a Rock-based version of the Jack FM format) and are currently CHR "Kiss 92.5" CKIS.

Radio Name Game - Lemonade Joe

Radio Limonádový Joe broadcasts from Prague in the Czech Republic.  I think the station plays a mix of Rock, Pop and Jazz although it's tough to figure out from looking at their website and the listen live feature isn't working as I type this.

The station is named for Lemonade Joe, a novel, theatre play and beloved Czechoslovak film from 1964 which satirizes classic American Western movies.

CHNK "100.7 Hank FM" was a Country station in Winnipeg, Manitoba from 2006 to 2010. The frequency is currently home to Soft AC/Nostalgia "The Breeze 100.7" CFJL.
A similarly-logoed "Hank" station can be seen here.

Radio Name Game - Dave

A sticker and magnet from WZGC "92.9 Dave FM," an Adult Album Alternative station in Atlanta, Georgia.  The CBS-owned outlet has announced that they will flip to Sports this fall which will give the Atlanta market its third station with that format.

Radio Name Game - Ed

"103.3 Ed FM" KDRF is an Adult Hits station in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Previously an Alternative station known as "103.3 The Zone," they flipped to their current format in 2004 and became "Fred FM."  Unfortunately for them, XM Satellite Radio had a trademark on the name "Fred" for their Classic Alternative channel (their call letters are Fred spelled backwards...sort of) so they switched to "Ed FM."  XM's threatened lawsuit apparently doesn't affect Canadian Freds.

Radio Sticker of the Day Mailbag - KRRG

Yesterday the mailman delivered a glorious stack of stickers courtesy of the ever-generous Dan Sys in British Columbia.  Wow!  What a package...including this beauty from KRRG "Big Buck Country" in Laredo, Texas.  Thanks a LOT Dan!
