"Windy 103.9" WWND is a low-power, 100-watt station licensed to White Stone, Virginia.  They went on the air in April 2016 and carry an Oldies format featuring songs from the 1950s to the 1980s.

WMAD




Madison, Wisconsin's first WMAD went on the air in 1964 broadcasting at 1550 AM and later simulcast a Country format on 106.3 FM.  An Alternative Rock outlet with the WMAD calls existed at one time that may or may not have been related to the original station.  The current WMAD plays Country music at 96.3 FM as "Star Country."

The 1989 Broadcasting Yearbook lists WHVE "Wave 102.5" as having an Adult Contemporary/Jazz format.  It also says that the station president was Arthur Carlson who apparently made his way down to Tampa after a stint as General Manager of WKRP a few years earlier.

KLIF-AM








570 AM KLIF is a News/Talk outlet in Dallas, Texas.  The station was founded in the Oak Cliff neighborhood (hence the KLIF call letters) in 1947.  "The Mighty 1190" was a powerhouse Top-40 station in the 1950s and 60s.  The top sticker dates from the early-to-mid 1980s when they carried a Country format.  The move to 570 AM took place in 1990.

KAOS




89.3 FM KOAS is a hybrid college/community station broadcasting from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.  They went on the air in January 1973.

 


As mentioned on this program guide, KAOS plays music that is at least 80% from independent labels and artists.  An on-air performance by Nirvana in 1987 was the second ever public appearance by the band.

Radio Maximum




Radio Maximum went on the air in Moscow, Russia on Christmas Day 1991--the same exact day that president Mikhail Gorbachev resigned, declared his office extinct and officially dissolved the Soviet Union.  Their Rock music format is now heard on two dozen frequencies throughout many parts of the country.  Maximum began as a joint venture between The Moscow News and three American companies including Westwood One and a now-defunct technology company specializing in surveillance and electronic warfare systems.

Brown University's WBRU broadcast for over 50 years at 95.5 FM in Providence, Rhode Island.  In 2017 the Indie/Modern Rock station was sold to a hideous radio station destroyer and moved online to wbru.com.  Stickers from their days as a terrestrial station can be seen here.
