WRCU
90.1 FM WRCU is the student-run radio station at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Radio on Colgate's campus officially began in 1951 with carrier-current station WCU. In 1959 they began an affiliation with the Home of Champions radio network which allowed them to broadcast all daytime New York Yankees games. A call letter change to WRCU occurred around this same time. Colgate's administration considered WRCU to be an "academic" radio station which meant a ban on Rock and Roll and a focus on news and interviews. Any music played would soft and not the "wild music" that was coming out in those days. The Rock ban lasted until 1963. WRCU started broadcasting on FM in 1970.
