WBAP

820 AM WBAP is a News/Talk station in Dallas, Texas.  They began broadcasting on this date 90 years ago and are one of the rare stations west of the Mississippi River to have call letters that begin with the letter W.  The calls stood for We Bring A Program which were chosen by Herbert Hoover who was then Secretary of Commerce, the agency that was the forerunner of the Federal Communications Commission.  According to the WBAP website, their 50,000-watt signal has "the greatest daytime coverage of any radio station in America and as much coverage at night as any other U.S. radio station."  They are also the first radio station in the US with regularly scheduled newscasts as well as the first station to have an audible logo signal (think the NBC chimes except that WBAP used a cowbell.)  WBAP AM is licensed to Fort Worth, Texas while their 96.7 FM simulcast is licensed to Flower Mound, Texas
