WMIT

WMIT "106.9 The Light" is a Contemporary Christian station licensed to Black Mountain, North Carolina.  The station's website states that WMIT has the 12th largest FM coverage in the United States and covers four Arbitron-rated metro areas--Charlotte, Greenville/Spartanburg, Asheville and Johnson City/Bristol.  This is possible because their 35,000-watt signal is transmitted from Clingman's Peak which is over 6,700 feet above sea level, one of the highest transmitter sites east of the Mississippi River.  Their call letters stand for Mount (WMITchell which is near the transmitter site and is the highest peak in the eastern United States.  At one time, the Billy Graham Evangelical Association-owned station operated with an incredible 325,000 watts and could be picked up as far away as Atlanta, Georgia.
