CKYL went on the air in Peace River, Alberta in November 1954. In 2018
CKYL moved from their 610 AM frequency to a 100,000-watt signal at 94.9 FM. They are also heard on about a half dozen FM rebroadcasters in northern Alberta. The former "YL Country" rebranded in 2018 to "River Country 94.9" and airs a unique mix of Country and Classic Rock music.
