Radio Impuls

Impuls Radio went on the air in 1999 from Prague, Czech Republic.  They are heard throughout the country on more than two dozen frequencies and were the most listened to national station (at least as of 2014 when this article came out.)

WYEN

"Request Radio" WYEN went on the air at 106.7 FM on December 3, 1971.  They operated from the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines, Illinois.  Their 50,000-watt signal may not have penetrated Chicago completely as they were tied for 30th place in the Arbitron ratings at one point in 1979.  Musically they were a mix of Contemporary and MOR.  For much more info on this station, check out this book.

WAKY

Louisville, Kentucky's 790 WAKY was best known for being that city's Top-40 powerhouse in the 1960s and 70s.  They were also able to successfully mix in a healthy amount of Country and R&B hits (especially after black-oriented WLOU went off the air each day at sunset) along with mainstream pop and rock.  This sticker dates to between 1982 and 1986 when they carried an Oldies format.  As of this posting, the WAKY call letters still exist in Louisville although now located at 620 AM and 103.5 FM as a Classic Hits station.
