WSIX
I bought a 2013 Hyundai Sonata today. My Chevy Blazer still runs fine but now that I commute 50 miles round trip to work I decided it was time for a vehicle that gets more than 19 miles per gallon (you can see Old Blue has been relegated to parking on the street.) I haven't broken out the manual to figure out all the dashboard controls yet but I've definitely been messing with the radio.
The car comes with a free three month trial of SiriusXM satellite radio which is something I'd never heard before. XM offers dozens of news/talk and music channels from almost every genre but after sampling it for awhile I decided that there were only about 5 that I could see myself listening to regularly. At this point I also don't need yet another monthly payment. I guess I'll just enjoy it while it lasts.
A bumper sticker from "Open Road", an XM talk channel aimed at truckers. After the controversial merger between Sirius Satellite Radio and XM, the Sirius Trucking Network combined with Open Road to form Road Dog Trucking.
I was surprised to find out that 5 Clear Channel-owned terrestrial radio stations could be found in the SiriusXM lineup: Top-40 KIIS "102.7 KIIS FM"/Los Angeles, Adult Contemporary WLTW "106.7 Lite FM"/New York, Top-40 WHTZ "Z100"/New York, Urban WGCI/Chicago, and....
98 WSIX, a Country station from Nashville, Tennessee.

KKSU
KKSU broadcast from Kansas State University from 1924 until 2002. Originally known as KSAC, (Kansas State Agricultural College) the majority of KKSU's programming was farm-related "along with a mix of local and national programs on food, health, family and public affairs." KSAC/KKSU only broadcast a few hours a day and timeshared the 580 frequency with commercial station WIBW, a partnership that was often troubled. In the end, it was a disagreement over the broadcast rights of Kansas State football games that put the station off the air forever (you can read the boring details here.) KKSU was licensed to Manhattan, Kansas.

WMIT
WMIT "106.9 The Light" is a Contemporary Christian station licensed to Black Mountain, North Carolina. The station's website states that WMIT has the 12th largest FM coverage in the United States and covers four Arbitron-rated metro areas--Charlotte, Greenville/Spartanburg, Asheville and Johnson City/Bristol. This is possible because their 35,000-watt signal is transmitted from Clingman's Peak which is over 6,700 feet above sea level, one of the highest transmitter sites east of the Mississippi River. Their call letters stand for Mount (W) MITchell which is near the transmitter site and is the highest peak in the eastern United States. At one time, the Billy Graham Evangelical Association-owned station operated with an incredible 325,000 watts and could be picked up as far away as Atlanta, Georgia.

WBAP
820 AM WBAP is a News/Talk station in Dallas, Texas. They began broadcasting on this date 90 years ago and are one of the rare stations west of the Mississippi River to have call letters that begin with the letter W. The calls stood for We Bring A Program which were chosen by Herbert Hoover who was then Secretary of Commerce, the agency that was the forerunner of the Federal Communications Commission. According to the WBAP website, their 50,000-watt signal has "the greatest daytime coverage of any radio station in America and as much coverage at night as any other U.S. radio station." They are also the first radio station in the US with regularly scheduled newscasts as well as the first station to have an audible logo signal (think the NBC chimes except that WBAP used a cowbell.) WBAP AM is licensed to Fort Worth, Texas while their 96.7 FM simulcast is licensed to Flower Mound, Texas

KXLS
The 1982 Broadcasting Yearbook lists KXLS as having an MOR format and was licensed to Alva, Oklahoma. The sticker's border, palm trees and drop shadow on the call letters actually have a mirrored chrome look which can't be duplicated by my scanner. Inside the black circle at the top of the triangle are the letters ZBC which stood for the now-defunct Zumma Broadcasting Co. (you can almost see it if you click on the sticker.)
