JACK FMs
Jack FMs play a mixture of hits from the 1960s through the 1990s along with a few current songs. They promote themselves as having a larger and more varied playlist than other music formats and often use the slogan "playing what we want" and are sometimes compared to an iPod set on shuffle. The success of these stations in the mid-2000s caused dozens of others to flip to Jack FM or other similarly formatted "named" stations like Ben, Doug, Abe, Joe and Frank. There are currently over 60 Jack FMs in North America, Russia and the United Kingdom--not all of which use this same logo. Jack FM's format is officially listed as Variety Hits or Adult Hits
96.9 Jack FM CKLG (now CJAX) was the first Jack FM on terrestrial radio. They launched in 2002 from Vancouver, British Columbia.
96.3 Jack FM WCJK is licensed to Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
92.3 Jack FM CJET is licensed to Smiths Falls, Ontario.

Bridges
Earlier this month we went white water rafting in West Virginia. It was something I'd never done before and was a total blast (that's me in back left of the picture....I let my son take the brunt of the rapids sitting front left.)
Near the end of the six hour journey we passed under the spectacular, 876 foot high New River Gorge Bridge. It's the longest steel span in the western hemisphere and the second highest vehicular bridge in the United States. The 1977 completion of the bridge reduced a winding, 40 minute drive to less than a minute.
KTBG "90.9 The Bridge" is an Adult Album Alternative station owned by the University of Central Missouri and licensed to Warrensburg, MO. They also carry some programming from National Public Radio including All Things Considered and Morning Edition.
KCWN is a Christian Contemporary station licensed to New Sharon, Iowa.
CKBD became Canada's first Contemporary Christian station in 1994. The 600 AM frequency went dark in 2008, having been used in Vancouver, British Columbia under various call letters since 1933.

CiTR
CiTR (Canadian Independent Thunderbird Radio) is the student radio station from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. I recently discovered the podcast of Nardwuar, a CiTR DJ who has hosted his own show there since 1987. It's a mix of indie rock and some of the most entertaining interviews I've ever heard. Nardwuar the Human Serviette (his full name) is a combination rock geek, confrontational interviewer and high-pitched, motor-mouthed hipster--imagine Andy Dick with an extensive musical knowledge. He usually starts each conversation with an off-putting "Who are you?" and ends with "Doo doodle doot doo" to which the interviewee must add the final "doot doo." Listen in amazement to his hilarious interview with Iggy Pop, him attempting to get Lemmy from Motorhead to add the final "doot doo," and getting hung up on by a grumpy Beck. Twenty-two years worth of interviews can be found at Nardwuar's website.
