Hessischer Rundfunk

Hessischer Rundfunk is the public broadcaster for the German state of Hesse with main offices in Frankfurt.  Along with television, HR currently carries 6 radio channels: hr1, hr2-kultur, hr3, hr4, hr-info and YOU FM.

At the time this sticker came out, hr1 was the network's main information channel.  They currently carry MOR/Easy Listening music aimed at a 40-60 year old demographic.

hr2 carries cultural programming and Classical music although it appears they previously targeted children.

hr3 carries adult-oriented popular music.

hr4 is aimed at older listeners, playing German popular music, light Classical, folk and instrumental music as well as regional news.

Studio Kassel is the headquarters of hr4 as well as the television magazine "Herkules".

What the hell is in that woman's mouth?!  A bunch of carrots?

hr XXL existed from 1998 to 2003 and featured independent music for a young people.

"Unkle Otto" has been the mascot of Hessischer Rundfunk since 1958.  In earlier years he had an H-shaped television antenna coming out of his head but more recently switched to an "hr".

Named after Chicago's downtown business district, "97.9 The Loop" WLUP has been a Rock station since 1977.

Jonathon Brandmeier did a 14-year stint ('83-'97) doing mornings on The Loop, and again from 2005 to 2009.

Chicagofest was an annual, two week long music festival that took place on Navy Pier from 1978 to 1983.  1981's lineup included Cheap Trick, Willie Nelson, Chaka Khan, Blondie, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Muddy Waters.  WLUP sponsored their own "Rock Around the Dock" music stage and broadcast live from the event.  Other radio stations had their own Chicagofest stage as well including WLS and WXRT.

KUAF / KXUA

KUAF began in 1973 as a student-run station from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.  A subsequent frequency shift and major power upgrade changed KUAF into a professional public radio station and NPR affiliate.

The loss of student input on an FM campus radio station was finally solved when 88.3 KXUA went on the air in April, 2000.
