WMGP

 A late 1980s sticker from Classic Hits WMGP "Magic 99.3" in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

WIDD

1520 AM WIDD signed on the air from Elizabethton, Tennessee in November 1964.  Beginning in 1975 the WIDD call letters were also used for a sister station at 99.3 FM.  The AM half carried a Country format while the FM was a Gospel/Religious station.  

In 1978 WIDD was involved in a lawsuit after they aired the song "The Ballad of Jarvis Stout."  Stout was a Carter County constable arrested for drunk driving.  The county sheriff and a dispatcher co-wrote the song which was played on WIDD as their "Pick Hit of the Week."  Stout sued them along with the radio station, the studio where it was recorded and a newspaper which featured a front page story about the recording for "false and defamatory matter" that is "so outrageous...as to go beyond all bounds of decency."  I was unable to find out the results of this lawsuit.

WEBZ

WEBZ is an Urban Contemporary station in Panama City, Florida.  At some point they moved from 93.5 FM to 99.3 FM while keeping "The Beat" branding.
 

WAYO

104.3 FM WAYO is a listener-supported, low-power station in Rochester, New York.  They went on the air in 2016.
 

CJLF

"Life 100.3" CJLF is a Contemporary Christian station in Barrie, Ontario.

KVSI

1450 AM KVSI is an Adult Contemporary station licensed to Montpelier, Idaho.  The 1,000-watt station went on the air in 1965 and is now also heard on two FM translators.
 

KQID

"Q93" KQID is a Top-40 station in Alexandria, Louisiana.
 

KLTN

102.9 FM KLTN is a Regional Mexican station in Houston, Texas.  They are currently branded as "Qué Buena 102.9"
 

KHIS / KHEZ

89.9 FM KHIS is a Religious station licensed to Jackson, Missouri.  Programming is also heard on 107.9 FM KHEZ in Cape Girardeau, MO.
 

KBEM

88.5 FM KBEM (K Board of Education Minneapolis) is a Jazz station in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  They went on the air in 1970 and is owned by the city's public school system.  KBEM has carried the same format since 1985.
 

WZIR

"Z98" WZIR was a Rock station in Buffalo, New York circa the early 1980s.  They were one of five(!) Rock stations that could be heard in western NY at that time along with WGRQ, WPHD, WUWU and CILQ.
 

WLIU

88.3 FM WLIU was a non-commercial, public radio station owned by Long Island University.  They were licensed to Southampton, New York and broadcast from 2002 to 2010.
 

WRYR

97.5 FM WRYR was a Low-Power, community radio station licensed to Sherwood, Maryland from 2002 until 2019.  They were one of the first LPFM stations to go on the air and was the first initiative completed by the Prometheus Radio Project.
 

WOTW

I was having a hard time finding out anything about Nashua, New Hampshire's WOTW so I posted this sticker on the New England Radio Stations Facebook page and asked for some info.  I found out that this decal is circa the early 1980s.  They carried an Adult Contemporary/Hot AC format at the time on FM and Religious programming on the AM side.  Both stations went on the air in 1947.  The original owner chose call letters based on his aunt's initials (W) Orlena Trestle Wingate.

 

WGTX

1280 AM WGTX was on the air in DeFuniak Springs, Florida from 1969 to 2006.
 

KSKU

94.7 FM KSKU is a 50,000-watt CHR station in Sterling/Hutchinson, Kansas.
 

Italy - Day 12 - Radio Banconara

Our last full day in Italy was spent in Martina Franca and the beautiful whitewashed towns of Locorotondo and Ostuni.

I only saw two radio logos on the entire trip--a Radio 105 string bag that someone was wearing in Rome and this Radio Centro sign in Locorotondo.

Radio Banconara was on the air in the late 1970s and early 80s.  They were located in Milan which is nowhere near where we were traveling on this day but I just like the way the reto, hand-drawn sticker at the top looks.  

So long, Italy!  Our plan next year is to take a cruise starting in Rome which hits a couple places in Italy we haven't seen along with Malta and a few Greek islands.  
 

Italy - Day 11 - Radio Mondo Nuovo

Day three in Puglia was spent in the fishing port of Trani, the coastal city of Barletta and lunch in Minervino Murge "the balcony of Puglia."

This sticker has a map showing the southernmost area of Puglia, the tip of the heel of Italy's boot.  Radio Mondo Nuovo broadcasted on 95.75 and 96.00 FM but I was unable to figure out if they still exist.

Italy - Day 10 - Radio Anch'io

The second day of our time in Puglia began with a walking tour of Matera, a town famous for The Stassi.  We also went to the ancient center of Altamura as well as the castle in Gioia del Colle.

These prehistoric caves were the basis of what would become one of the earliest human settlements in Italy.  The ones in this photo faced north and were therefore never developed because they received less sunlight.

The southern-facing caves turned into what would become known as The Stassi, a city of cave houses and rocky churches where time seemed to stand still.  There is evidence of people living here as early as 7000 BC.  No picture can capture the beauty of this place.  Houses on top of houses dug directly into the rock itself and it just feels ancient.

Altamura is known for their bakeries.  They bake a specific type of bread (Pane di Altamura) which is popular throughout Italy and stays fresh up to two weeks.

Construction on the Castello Normanno-Svevo in Gioia del Colle began in the 9th century.  Additions and fortifications took place until around 1230.

Radio Anch'io is a likely defunct station in Matera.
