KPUR AM & FM

 

KPUR "The Score" is a Sports Talk station from Amarillo, Texas. This vintage sticker might be from their days as a Top-40 station. Shamrock Oil is a now-defunct (I think) company that was bought out by the Valero Energy Corporation.

 

KPUR "95.7 FM The Armadillo" has played Country music in Amarillo since 2018.

WABG

Wikipedia lists Greenwood, Mississippi's WABG as a Talk/Personality station but their official website comes up blank. Another website has them carrying a Blues/Classic Rock format but the "listen live" button came up empty for me twice. I'm going to guess this sticker is from the early 1980s when their format was listed as Middle-Of-The-Road.

KRVE

"96.1 The River" KRVE is an Adult Contemporary station licensed to Brusly, Louisiana near Baton Rouge.

KKRL

KKRL is a Hot Adult Contemporary station from Carroll, Iowa. This sticker is circa 1989.

OMG

"K-Wave" KWVV is an Adult Album Alternative station licensed to Homer, Alaska. 

107.9 KWVE is a Christian talk and music station licensed to San Clemente, California. 

"94.7 The Wave" KTWV is a hybrid Adult Contemporary/Smooth Jazz station from Los Angeles, California.

Johnny Appleseed Day

Today is Johnny Appleseed Day which celebrates the legendary nurseryman who walked around barefoot spreading apple seeds wherever he went. In 46 years John Chapman planted enough trees to cover over 100,000 square miles. His mission was to plant orchards so that pioneers would have something to sustain them as they moved west.

"Apple 96 FM" KKPL was a CHR station licensed to Opportunity, Washington circa 1986. 96.1 FM is currently Country "Kix 96" KIXZ.

KBSG

KBSG was an Oldies station licensed to Tacoma, Washington. They later became "B97.3" with a Classic Hits format but is currently News/Talk KIRO.

Mystery Sticker #18 SOLVED!

It's a mystery what station this sticker is from. I found three stations that are currently or formerly known as "Oldies 96.5" -- WOXL-Biltmore Forest, North Carolina ; WAZZ-Laurinburg, North Carolina and KJBL-Julesburg, Colorado. Any ideas?

L'Hospitalet de Llobregat is a city near Barcelona in the Catalonian region of Spain. Beyond that, I know nothing about this station except that there appears to be current Radio L'Hospitalet at 96.3 FM.

Lakeland Radio is a Hot Adult Contemporary/Adult Hits station broadcasting from Kendal in the North West region of England.

97.1 WASH-FM is an Adult Contemporary station from WASHington, DC.

WXLK

"K92" WXLK has been a Top-40 station in Roanoke, Virginia since New Year's Eve, 1979.

Market #1s - San Francisco - KCBS

KCBS (K Columbia Broadcasting System) is a News station licensed to San Francisco, California. KCBS first went on the air in 1921 but their history as an experimental radio station goes all the way back to 1909. They are the eighth oldest fully licensed station in the United States and the oldest in the Bay Area. In 1968 KCBS became one of the first all-news stations in the country. "All News 740" was the number one rated station in San Francisco in the latest radio ratings.

WQKC was a Country station licensed to Seymour, Indiana.

WKQX

"Q101" WKQX is an Alternative station from Chicago, Illinois.

This sticker is circa 1986 when they morphed into a Hot Adult Contemporary format after having been an Album Rock station.

 

The logo on this "i101" decal dates to when WKQX had a Hot Adult Contemporary format circa 2012 to 2014.

Today is Nebraska Admission Day. They became the 37th U.S. state on this date in 1867. 

Nebraska Educational Telecommunications is a network of public radio and television stations based in Lincoln. Nebraska Public Radio consists of 9 stations and 5 repeaters throughout the state. They carry National Public Radio programming along with News and Classical music.

National Tooth Fairy Day

Every February 28th is supposedly National Tooth Fairy Day.

The Secret Adventures of the Tooth Fairy was a two-minute comedic radio serial created by Dick Orkin in the early 1970s. 325 episodes were produced and eventually ran on over 2,500 radio stations worldwide.

This set of Tooth Fairy stickers was put out by 890 AM WLS (World's Largest Store-from when the station was owned by Sears) in Chicago, Illinois. Unfortunately, half of the stickers are missing but you can see the complete sheet here.

WEEZ was a Gospel station licensed to Laurel, Mississippi. 99.3 is currently the Classic Country station WHER.
