WPFB

A t-shirt and sticker from WPFB (W Paul F Braden--the original owner) in Middletown, Ohio.  The station carried a Country format from 1988 until 2011 at which time they were bought by Northern Kentuky University's WNKU.

KKCI

A t-shirt from "Lite Rock 102.5" KKCI in Goodland, Kansas.  The 100,000-watt station now carries a Classic Rock format.

KEBC

94.7 KEBC (K Electronic Broadcasting Company--the original owners) went on the air in June, 1967 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and carried a Country format for 30 years.  The call letters still exist in OKC at 1560 AM as a Sports station branded as "The Franchise".  94.7 FM is currently Active Rock KBRU "The Brew".

WAZU / WING-FM / WDHT

WAZU was a Rock station in Dayton, Ohio from 1989 until around 1993.  They were the main competitor of heritage Rock station WTUE and were licensed to Springfield, OH.  I vaguely remember Sterling, the DJ in the video below, volunteering at the same college station as I did.

102.9 FM then flipped to Classic Rock and changed their call letters to WING-FM (sister station to WING-AM).

Today the frequency is home to "Hot 102.9" WDHT "Blazin' Hip Hop and R&B".  WDHT is now licensed to Urbana, OH.

STAR * SAT Radio

STAR * SAT Radio is based in Berlin, Germany and went on the air in 1988.

Europa 2

Europa 2 is a network of Contemporary Hit stations based in Prague, Czech Republic.  They can be heard on at least three dozen frequencies throughout the country.

WDJX

CHR station 99.7 WDJX went on the air in July, 1985 in Louisville, Kentucky.

KQQQ

104.9 FM KQQQ was a Top-40 station in Pullman, Washington.

WSWR

WSWR plays Classic Hits in the Ashland/Mansfield/Mount Vernon area of north-central Ohio.  The iHeartMedia owned station is now branded as "My 100.1"

KWSL

Formerly KBCM, 1470 AM KWSL was a Country station in Sioux City, Iowa.  KWSL currently carries a Spanish-language format as "La Preciosa".

Mystery Listener Card #2

Anybody know where this listener card come from?  There was the short-lived KAKC "KC 93" in the mid-1970s in Tulsa, Oklahoma but they were Top-40.  KACI in The Dalles, Oregon was known as "KC 93.5" but they didn't move to that frequency until 2012.  Help!

WJKL

"94.3 The Fox" WJKL (W Richard JaKLe, onetime station manager) was a Rock station licensed to Elgin, Illinois.

A listener club card from between 1982 to 1989 when they carried a Big Band/Nostalgia format branded as "JKL 94 Great Music".

WJKL is currently part of the massive K-Love network of Christian Contemporary stations and are now licensed to Glendale Heights, IL.

WPLJ

Last night my wife and I went to the Fraze Pavilion to watch the Led Zeppelin cover band Get The Led Out.  After getting up at 3:30 AM that morning and working 13 hours, I wouldn't have been too bummed out if the earlier downpours had continued and we decided to skip this outdoor show.  Thankfully, the weather cleared and we got to experience a fantastic concert.  GTLO are a dead-on sounding Zeppelin tribute band.  They don't set out to look like the band (the singer admitted to looking like Howard Stern...although one guitarist looked an awful lot like Robert Plant) but rather concentrate on re-creating the sound of Zeppelin's studio albums.  They even pulled out a theremin and what I think was a bit of turntablism to produce the mid-song freakout from Whole Lotta Love.  Great show all around.

Mystery Listener Card

I found this listener card misfiled under KTXQ when I was pulling stickers for yesterday's post.  Clearly, they share the same design but are one dial position off.  Anyone know where this "Q101" card is from?  The best known station with that branding is probably WKQX in Chicago but it's unknown if they ever had this logo.

KTXQ

"Q102" KTXQ was a Rock station in Dallas, Texas from 1978 until 1998.  They were the main competitor of KZEW--the hatred between the two stations beginning after "Q102" beat "The Zoo" in the ratings after just two months on the air.  Eventually the stations shared more than just similar playlists as various jocks and bosses ended up working at both outlets.  By 1994 "Q102" had morphed into an Alternative Rock station.

In 1998 KTXQ flipped to R&B Oldies as "Magic 102".
102.1 FM is currently Alternative Rock KDGE "The Edge".

WSPY

107.1 WSPY (W Sandwich Plano Yorkville) went on the air on January 19, 1974.  They air a Full Service/Adult Contemporary format for Chicago's far western suburbs and are licensed to Plano, Illinois.

WIZN

"The Wizard" 106.7 WIZN is a Classic Rock station licensed to Vergennes, Vermont.

WIBW

WIBW plays Country music in Topeka, Kansas.  They broadcast at 97.3 FM from their first air date in 1961 until September, 2002 when they relocated to 94.5 FM.
